Solar Panels

What are Solar Panels?
A Solar panel is a device that can be placed on roofs or in the desert. There are two different types of Solar panels. One of them is used for electricity, and the other one is used to heat up water so it becomes hot water.

Solar Panels that are in the desert are there because in the desert there is a lot of sun. Solar Panel's electricity and heat can travel long distances and transfer the elecrtricity to the city.

Who invented the Solar Panel?
The first Solar cell was invented by Charles Fritts in the 1880's. Later in 1931 a German
engineer, Dr Bruno Lange, developed a photo cell using silver selenide.
Although the prototype converted less then 1% of sunlight into electricity, Ernst Werner von Siemens and James Clerk Maxwell recognised the importance of this discovery
Following the work of Russell Ohl in the 1940's researchers Gerald Pearson, Calvin Fuller and Daryl Chapin created the sillicon solar cell in 1954

What are Solar Panels made out of?
Solar Panels are made out of slabs of Polycrystalline silicon .
